Space Rovers (Constellation) - "The Stone That Speaks" The scene is deep space aboard the Space Rover ship Galatea, size wise the biggest vessel of the fleet. The scene shifts to the living quarters of Lt. Alyssha Weiss, a doberman/wolf mix who also happens to have a ghost like Yvoltan living inside of her named Shodata. It is night and Alyssha is fast asleep in her comfortable bed. Suddenly, a glowing ghost like creature appears at her bedside. It is another Yvoltan named Hiru. HIRU (booming voice): Shodata, Shodata, are you in here? SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Yes, I am here and... Hiru? Is that you? You have been missing from the home world for over one hundred yeggals! HIRU (booming voice): It is I, Shodata, and those on the home world told me you were here, trapped inside of a furry being. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Please lower your voice. Alyssha is in sleep mode and requires rest. Alyssha now gives out a loud snore and rolls over on her side in bed. HIRU (booming voice): Intriguing. I must ask you sometime about what it's like to live within a solid living organizm, but I haven't the time. I promised some friends I would deliver a message to you, that's why I'm here. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Please lower your voice Hiru. You might awaken Alyssha. HIRU (lowered voice): As you wish, Shodata. You were the leader of our people before I left the home world all those yeggals ago. I still hold you in high regard. I will transmit the complete message to you telepathically to save time. Hiru's glow intensifies for a moment. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): This message is vital! I must contact the Space Rover Academy on Earth at once! HIRU (booming voice): I have kept my promise, the message has been delivered. Farewell for now, Shodata! As Hiru disappears, Shodata takes control of the sleeping Alyssha's body. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): I must be careful not to wake her up Although Alyssha is still fast asleep, Shodata begins to slowly move her body. Tossing her bedcovers off and revealing the light pink nightie she is wearing, Alyssha slowly climbs out of bed and walks slowly towards the computer desk in her room. Still asleep, her head tilted to one side, Alyssha sits down and begins pushing buttons on her console. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Computer, open a priority channel to Earth, to the Space Rovers Academy The scene now shifts to the Space Rover Academy back on Earth. It is nine in the morning, the sun's rays glimmering through the tropical trees where the hidden Space Rover Academy campus is situated. Commandant Warrior, the huge St. Bernard sapien is in his office discussing class assignments with Delhi, a female mixed breed cano-sapien who teaches the magical arts. WARRIOR (pointing to a datapad): Here are the class assignments for the next semester, Delhi. All of your classes will be held in the multi purpose room DELHI (smiles): Thank you. My students need the space to practice advanced levitation techniques and ... VOICE OVER PA SYSTEM (booming): Commandant, you have a high priotity subspace message on Alpha Channel DELHI (stunned): That's a comm channel used only by our Space Rover ships WARRIOR (pushing buttons): Better find out what this is all about Warrior and Delhi are both shocked to see Alyssha on their viewscreen, clearly asleep. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Commandant Warrior, this is Lt. Shodata from the Galatea. I have an important message from.... WARRIOR (sternly): How can you speak to us when you are clearly asleep, Lt. DELHI (shouts): No wait, Lt. Shodata is a Yvoltan who lives inside of Lt. Alyssha Weiss. Although his host is sleeping, Shodata is not. WARRIOR (nods): Forgive me, Shodata, I didn't realize.... SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Please, you must hear me! I have news of the Constellation! WARRIOR (shocked): The Constellation? DELHI (surprised): But that ship was lost many months ago! SHODATA (from within Alyssha): My fellow Yvoltan, one called Hiru, has made contact with her crew, they are all alive in the Beta Quadrant! WARRIOR (stunned): The Beta Quadrant? Impossible! That region of space is over 80 light years away! Even our most advanced probes have never scanned any of that area of the galaxy DELHI (sternly): They are there, my dear. I can sense Shodata speaks the truth. SHODATA (from within Alyssha): You, canine female, you possess great mental and mystical powers, am I correct? DELHI (nods): Yes, and I can sense your advanced mental powers as well SHODATA (from within Alyssha): I do not wish to disturb my host, read my mind in the interest of time so you may tell your people the entire story Hearing this, Delhi nods and closes her eyes. Seconds later, her eyes open wide and she has the look of complete shook on her face SHODATA (from within Alyssha): I sense you have received the full message, I must return my host to her bed before she awakens... Suddenly, Alyssha yawns loudly and slowly opens her eyes. ALYSSHA (half awake): Is it morning yet... Alyssha nows sees Warrior and Delhi on the viewscreen in front of her, she now realizes that she is visible in front of two superior officers dressed in only a skimpy nightie on. ALYSSHA (shouts, covering herself with a robe): Vhat in dee name of cosmos is going on here! SHODATA (from within Alyssha): Forgive me for disrupting your slomber mode, Alyssha, I will explain later ALYSSHA (shouting): It better be a good vone! Computer, turn dis viewscreen off now! SNELL!! As the viewscreen in Warrior's office goes black, he turns to Delhi WARRIOR (smiles): Seems it up to you to, my dear. Tell me about the Constellation. DELHI (nods): As you wish, my love. This will take time to explain ////////// FLASHBACK BEGINS /////////////////// The scene is the bridge of the Constellation, two days ago. Captain Fetch is in the captain's chair, First Mate Heather Carrill is seated beside him. Dunkard and Promise are at the helm and nagivation consoles. Rocko is at the weapons console. Aero is at the science station and Mauler is at the communications station. Blinka, the lizard-sapien, sits near Aero. HEATHER (shouts): Status report! PROMISE (pushing buttons): According to Blinka's directions, we are approaching the Mu-dela system. BLINKA (turns towards her): The fourth planet in that system is habitable, but has a primative race of mammal on it. They call themselves Refgers and they are a very tribal people DUNKARD (pushing buttons): What do they look like? BLINKA (sternly): In your Earthling terms, they are a cross between ape and wolf. Very strong but lacking in basic intelligence ROCKO (laughs): Kind of like Heather, right? MAULER (high fives Rocko): Good one, bro! HEATHER (furious): SHUT UP! FETCH (sternly): That will do! We are in need of more seeds and basic supplies for the ship. Perhaps we could send a small team there BLINKA (sternly): I'd avoid the Refger if I were you, sir. They can be very violent when they want to be. They have seen my people before, but they normally do not welcome outsiders. HEATHER (nods): Who wants to deal with primitive beings anyway? (evil grin): Rocko and Mauler would get along well with them! ROCKO & MAULER (stunned): HEY! As Captain Fetch attempts to calm everyone down, Promise gets a strange look on her face. DUNKARD (turns towards her): Promise? What's the matter? You look like you're hearing voices! PROMISE (sternly): I am, Dunkard, I am sensing a very loud cry for help coming from the fourth planet FETCH (turns towards her): A loud cry for help? PROMISE (nods): Yes sir, it's a voice of someone who is in pain and under bondage as well. (turns towards him): Oh Captain, we must help! FETCH (calmly): Is there anything else you can tell us? PROMISE (sadly): The being's name is Hiru and ... (stunned): Hiru is from the Alpha Quadrant! AERO (stunned): WHAT?? MAULER (surprised): From our neck of the woods? BLINKA (confused): Neck of the what? DUNKARD (happy): If Hiru got to this part of space... FETCH (nods): Then Hiru may know the way home! It's a risk we have to take! (shouts): Plot a standard orbit around that fourth planet. Promise, can you use your powers to give us exact coordinates for the beam in? PROMISE (closing her eyes): I believe I can, Captain HEATHER (upset): Wait a minute! We're going to put our lives in danger based on some mystical hunches? FETCH (sternly): May I remind you, Lt. Carril, that Promise's magical powers are not just some mystical hunch? ROCKO (nods): Yeah! Remember back on that planet where Promise saved us? MAULER (giggles): She saved your tail, literally! HEATHER (upset, grabs her tail): Don't remind me! I still have nightmares about that! FETCH (sternly): I have made my decision and YOU will lead the away team! HEATHER (stunned): ME? Why don't YOU go? FETCH (shouts): Because I'm the captain and I say you're going! Take Blinka, Rocko, Millie and Gizmo with you. Report to the transporter room immediately! HEATHER (smirks): Yes sir ROCKO (smiles): Looks like I get to go with you, Heather! HEATHER (sternly): That's Lt. Carril to YOU! ROCKO (smiles): Ok ok, but if I were you, I'd wouldn't wear that teddy bear underwear HEATHER (nods): Ok, maybe I should... (upset): HEY! How did you know that? ROCKO (smiles as the elevator door closes): You put me on laundry detail last week, remember? This scene now shifts to the planet's surface. It is a desert like world with large sand dunes and little vegetation. The five Space Rovers materialize in a huge open area with a well constructed stone floor. Heather, Blinka, Promise, Rocko, Millie and Gizmo look all around and are stunned by what they see. In the center of the stone floor is a tall carved stone pillar with a rock the size and approximate shape of a bowling ball on top of it. ROCKO (looking around): Hey Blinka, you said that these Refgers were primitive. How could they made something like this? BLINKA (confused): I do not know, Rocko. None of my people ever reported this place on any of their travels here. HEATHER (looking all around): Are you sure this is where that cry for help is coming from, Promise? I can't see any life here at all! MILLIE (looking at hand held scanner): I hate to say this, but Heather's right. I'm not picking up any known life forms within a radius of .... GIZMO (interrupting): That's any KNOWN life forms, Millie. I'll bet me last dog biscuit that there be soneone here! I have faith in you, Promise! PROMISE (nods): I know we are close Promise closes her eyes and begins to concentrate. As she does, the others notice the red rock on top of the stone pillar beginning to glow. MILLIE (scared, hugging Gizmo): Look at that! This is getting spooky! GIZMO (struggling): I can barely breathe, lass! Let me go! HEATHER (points up): That must be an alarm! Rocko, Gizmo, use your laser pistols and blast it! PROMISE (booming voice): NO! WAIT! IT'S HIRU!! BLINKA, GIZMO, HEATHER, ROCKO, MILLIE (together): HUH? HIRU (booming voice, from within the red rock): At long last! Someone has heard my pleas! HEATHER (scared, hugging Rocko): WHAT ON EARTH IS IT!!! ROCKO (big grin): Gosh Lt. Carrill, I didn't know you cared! HEATHER (releases him): SHUT UP!! PROMISE (turns and looks up at the red rock): Yes Hiru, I heard your distress call and we came here to help! HIRU (from within the rock): I can sense that you have magical powers, furry one, and I am in great need of them PROMISE (nods): I'll do what I can, but I'm only an apprentice in the realm of magic. My name is Promise (points at each one): And this is Rocko, Gizmo, Millie, Blinka and Heather HEATHER (upset): I am Lt. Carrill to you, Cadet! ROCKO (smiles): You look upset, ma'am, do you need another hug? HEATHER (makes a fist): How's THIS for a hug, creep? BLINKA (staring up at the red rock): By the ancients! I have never witnessed such a thing before! HIRU (from within the rock): I am not a thing, you scaley creature! I am Hiru, a proud member of the Yvoltan race! HEATHER (stunned): Yvoltan? I've read of the Galatea's encounter with your race! (snooty): We're all a bunch of arrogant braggers who think all other intelligent beings are inferior to them ROCKO (giggles): Sounds a lot like YOU, ma'am! HEATHER (furious): WHAT??? HIRU (from within the rock): Stop that petty quarreling! I need your help, please? GIZMO (nods): Hiru did say please, lads! MILLIE (concerned): Hiru, did someone change you into a rock? HIRU (from within the rock): No! I am ashamed to admit it, but I've been sealed inside of this stone by one of this planet's inhabitants BLINKA (surprised): You mean a Refger did this terrible deed to you? HIRU (from within the rock): Yes Blinka, it happened a half a yeggal ago. I was exploring this region of space, gathering data to take back to my home world, when I came across this world. The life forms looked rather unique, so I came to the surface for a closer look. MY first encounter was with someone called Jikna, she was some sort of spellcasting mystic. Before I realized what was going on, she sensed my presence, uttered a strange incantation, and trapped me within this stone. MILLIE (nods): I understand, it's like how Shodata got trapped within Alyssha Weiss HIRU (from within the rock): WHAT? OUR LEADER IS ALSO IMPRISONED WITHIN STONE? GIZMO (shakes head): No no, Hiru, Alyssha is a fine looking lass from the Galatea. Shodata lives inside her HIRU (from within the rock): I have been away from my kind too long. Promise, I implore you, use your magical powers to free me from this stone! ROCKO (points his laser pistol): Who needs magic? I'll cut that rock in half and.... PROMISE (upset): NO ROCKO! That would kill Hiru! Only magic can release Hiru properly HIRU (from within the rock): WAIT! The others are approaching! Jikna uses me as an object of worship. If I do not do as she has commanded me, she has threatened to use magic to destroy me! You must not allow yourselves to be seen here, hide! ROCKO (laughs): You heard the rock, let's roll! The six Space Rovers quickly hide behind a nearby rock formation as a large group of Refgers approach the stone area, led by a female wearing a feathered crown and holding a long stick with a tiny red ruby on top of it in her hand. JIKNA (shouting): BEHOLD! THE STONE THAT SPEAKS! OH MIGHTY STONE, WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE FOR YOUR LOYAL FOLLOWERS TODAY? HIRU (from within the rock, booming voice): HEAR ME, ALL YOU WHO WISH TO SERVE THE GREAT STONE! I DEMAND AN OFFERING! BRING ME A CART FULL OF NOKA FRUIT IMMEDIATELY! THIS I COMMAND!!! The frightened Refgers scamper off in all directions after they hear this, all except for Jikna, who casually walks up to the stone pillar. JIKNA (evil grin): Very good, Hiru! You said it perfectly! HIRU (from within the rock): Have you not scammed these beings enough already? First, you demanded that they make you their ruler, then you had me order them to surrender all of their rare gems to you and then.... JIKNA (laughs): Those superstitious fools will believe anything! And may I remind you what I will do to you if you ever disobey me? (shakes her staff in the air): The power of my magic staff keeps you in that stone, ghostly one, and I can use it to crush you like a bactar egg! HIRU (from within the rock): Why do you continue to use me in this manner, you have everything of value on this wretched planet JIKNA (shouts): I WANT MORE!! MORE!!!! MORE!!!!!!! I want as much as I can steal from those worthless weaklings! (proudly): I am the wisest Refger of all time, and I deserve nothing less than complete victory! (holds her staff high again): Until I created this staff using a strange jem I found in the desert, I was a mere peasant girl who dabbled in enchantments. Now I am the supreme ruler of this realm (evil grin): Even commanding a god! HIRU (from within the rock): I am no god! JIKNA (laughs): You are to all those fools! They believe you are an object of worship, when I know you are a mere shadowy ghost! Powerless and weak! HIRU (from within the rock): If I were free from this stone, I'd show YOU what real power is! JIKNA (furious): Which is precisely why you will remain in that stone forever! Suddenly, Heather sneezes, causing Jikna to look over in that direction. JIKNA (evil grin): So! We have intruders! (points her staff): COME FORTH NOW!!! Instantly, the six hiding Space Rovers rise from the ground and are floating in the air in front of her. JIKNA (puzzled): What have we here? You six have strange markings and (points at Blinka): you are of the race of the lizard people! BLINKA (struggles): I am Blinka, release me at once! JIKNA (laughs): You amuse me, scaley one, perhaps I will fashion a belt from your skin! (looks at the others): The rest of you beings, where do you hail from? HEATHER (struggles): I am Lt. Heather Carrill of the Space Rover vessel Constellation and I demand... JIKNA (angry): You demand? YOU DEMAND! How dare you address me with disrespect! (points her staff at Heather): Here's a small demonstration of my powers! The gem on the end of Jikna's staff glows brightly, Heather disappears from the group and then reappears on the stone floor as a green chicken-like creature. JIKNA (laughing, mocking): Lt. Heather Carrill, you make a fine bactar! GIZMO (shouts): HEATHER!!! MILLIE (stunned): OH NO!!! JIKNA (smirking): Perhaps the Leuitenant would like some ... company! ROCKO (struggling): Stop this, you female Hitler! JIKNA (puzzled): I know not what a Hitler is, but I do not like the way you said that! (points her staff at Rocko): YOU WILL FEEL MY WRATH!! MILLIE (struggling): Not if I can help it! Millie struggles against the magical spell's grip until she has one hand free. With her free hand, she forms a fireball and throws it at Jikna's magic staff. The intense heat of the fireball causes Jikna to drop her staff and howl with pain. JIKNA (furious): YOU ARROGANT CREATURE! YOU WILL DIE NEXT!! As Jikna reaches for her staff, it floats into the air and into Promise's right hand. JIKNA (stunned): MY STAFF!!!! PROMISE (furious): YOU WILL HARM MY FRIENDS THESE PEOPLE NO MORE! Jikna looked scared as she sees Promise's eyes begin to glow. PROMISE (booming voice): Ye who are trapped within the red stone, BE FREE!!! Instantly, the red rock on top of the pillar explodes. In it's place is a shimmering white ghostly figure floating above them. HIRU (booming voice): AT LAST I HAVE MY FREEDOM BACK!! JIKNA (shouts): NO!!!!!!!!!!! HIRU (booming voice): And now, FEEL MY WRATH!!! The glowing Hiru shoots lightning bolts at Jikna, who runs as she dodges them. Her power now broken, the five floating Space Rovers fall to the stone floor. GIZMO (happy): You did it, lassie! BLINKA (happy): We are free and so is Hiru! MILLIE (points): But what about Heather? ROCKO (laughs): Find some feed corn, she can lay us some eggs for breakfast! GIZMO, BLINKA, PROMISE, MILLIE (together): ROCKO!! ROCKO (smiles): Just kidding, ok? Promise closes her eyes, the jem on the staff glows again, and instantly Heather is restored to normal. HEATHER (confused): What's going on, and BLEAH! why do I have the taste of worms in my mouth? As the others laugh outloud, Hiru returns to the group. HIRU (booming voice): Promise, you did it! You set me free! PROMISE (smiles): I couldn't have done it without Millie HIRU (booming voice): How can I repay you all for your kindness? HEATHER (sternly): Can you guide our ship home? HIRU (booming voice): Alas, I cannot. We Yvoltan simply travel through space, we have no sense of direction as you solid furry creatures call it. PROMISE (sighs): Alright, but could you at least get word to Space Rover Academy about us? (sadly): They probably believe we're all dead by now HIRU (booming voice): For you, my dear Promise, I will do it! PROMISE (smiles): Thank you, Hiru HIRU (booming voice): No my dear furry one, thank YOU! I will find Shodata who resides within this Alyssha person. That would be the fastest way to convey the message, farewell! HEATHER (shouts): WAIT! Can't you give us a map or something? OPEN US UP A WORMHOLE HOME! (screams): COME BACK HERE!!! PROMISE (smiles): It's no use, Lt. Carrill, Hiru is heading home HEATHER (furious): PROMISE, WHY DID YOU LET HIRU GO? PROMISE (shrugs): How could I stop someone who longs to return home? HEATHER (furious): I'm putting you on report! ROCKO (points): And we'll report on how Jakna turned you into a green chicken! Do I see feathers on your uniform, Leuitenant? HEATHER (furious): ROCKO!!! MILLIE (laughing): You did look funny! BLINKA (laughing): The funniest sight I've seen in years! GIZMO (nods): Aye! ROCKO (sternly): So Lt. Carrill, no bad report for Promise, or we'll tell the entire crew about your little adventure in chicken land! HEATHER (nods): Alright, you win Cadet ROCKO (big grin): I thought you'd see it my way, mother hen! Heather gets furious but knows she can't do anything about it. ///////////////// FLASHBACK ENDS ///////////////////////// DELHI (continuing to speak): Apparently Hiru did hang around the planet for a while longer, because I can clearly see that the Constellation's landing party managed to straighten things out with the Refgers and that the tribe punished Jahna for deceiving them and taking their goods. WARRIOR (excited): So they are alive! Couldn't Hiru tell you where they were located in the Beta Quadrant? DELHI (sadly): I'm afraid not. Yvoltan space travel is quite different than our own. Even reading his mind did not help. WARRIOR (sternly): We must inform the Master and the other Space Rover vessels at once! Contact Daisy and Flash, perhaps they can devise a way to scan that part of the universe or find a way to send long range probes there! The scene now shifts back to the Constellation in the galley. Millie, Rocko, Blinka, Promise and Wer-vil sit together eating dinner. WER-VIL (excited): Amazing! So in the end, you were able to free the Yvoltan and free all the Refgers from virtual slavery! MILLIE (nods): That's right, that's the way it happened! ROCKO (upset): Lt. Carrill wrote in her report that she was the hero, said it was her leadership that saved the day. I wish we could get back at her for lying like that! PROMISE (smiles): Perhaps there is! Promise and the others at their table watch as Heather sits down next to Fetch amd Dunkard. Promise points in her direction and whipsers a few words. FETCH (sipping coffee): Heather, I find your report on the Refger incident a bit hard to believe HEATHER (proudly): What's so hard to believe? I'm a natural born leader. Suddenly, Heather feels a bit uncomfortable and stands up. It's then that she looks down and sees a medium sized blue speckled egg in the seat of her chair. Seeing this, she quickly grabs it and screams. HEATHER (screamed): OH NO! I'M TURNING BACK INTO A BACTAR AGAIN!! As Heather runs out of the galley, Fetch and Dunkard look confused while the others in the galley burst into laughter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE END
